Table games on the floor
Grand Casino Dunedin live games focus on four core table games: Blackjack, Roulette, Baccarat and Caribbean Stud Poker. All live tables sit together on the main gaming floor inside the heritage Southern Cross Hotel building, at the corner of Princes Street and High Street in central Dunedin. There is just one venue entry, one reception area, no hidden rooms or extra registrations to worry about.
We spread Blackjack in two versions: standard Blackjack and our Blackjack Plus variant. Roulette is run in a traditional wheel format. Baccarat is dealt face-up only, which suits players who prefer seeing every card on both hands instead of waiting for the reveal. Caribbean Stud Poker is a house-banked poker table, so you are playing against us as the casino, not in a cash game against other players.

Happy Hour - Monday to Thursday
For casual players, this time slot is usually the sweet spot. From Monday to Thursday, between 4:15 pm and 6:30 pm, we lower minimum bets on all the main table games on the floor. We confirm the Happy Hour details and any temporary changes on our official Instagram account @grandcasinodunedin.
During that Happy Hour window, the reduced minimums are:
- Roulette - from NZ$1
- Blackjack - from NZ$10
- Blackjack Plus - from NZ$5
- Baccarat (face-up only) - from NZ$15
Once the clock rolls past 6:30 pm, standard table minimums come back into play. We do not list the full set of regular limits on third-party websites, so the safest move is to check our official site or the Grand Casino app before you head in for a session. Happy Hour runs on weekdays only - it does not apply on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
One extra point that helps first-time visitors anywhere: playing during a lower-minimum period gives you more hands or spins for the same budget, which usually makes it easier to settle in and understand the table flow before you move up in stakes.
Poker cash games
Live poker cash games run inside the main casino on Friday and Saturday nights, with tables taking seats from 7:30 pm. The flagship game is No-Limit Texas Hold’em at $1/$2 blinds. Omaha cash games are also listed on our schedule, although $1/$2 Hold’em is the game you are most likely to see running first and for longer.
For the $1/$2 No-Limit Hold’em game, the structure is:
- Minimum buy-in: NZ$40
- Maximum buy-in: NZ$200
We take rake at 10% of the pot, capped at NZ$10 per hand. That cap and percentage are published in third-party poker listings such as Somuchpoker and PokerAtlas, and they apply across all live cash game formats we spread on the floor.
The poker area sits within the main casino space, not in a separate room that needs its own entryway. To sit in a poker game, you need to be at least 20 years old, which follows New Zealand casino rules under the Gambling Act 2003.

Poker tournaments
We also run regular poker tournaments across several days of the week. The schedule mixes Sit’n’Go style events with deeper stack formats, keeping buy-ins in a low to medium band so that both new players and regular visitors can jump in.
The confirmed weekly pattern looks like this:
- Wednesday - Sit’n’Go or deep stack event with a guaranteed NZ$2,000 prize pool, buy-in usually in the NZ$10-30 range
- Thursday - Tournament with a guaranteed NZ$500 prize pool, buy-in also typically around NZ$10-30
- Saturday - Tournament session with buy-in and prize pool following the current in-house schedule
- Sunday - Tournament session, again with details set by the latest schedule

The Wednesday NZ$2,000 guaranteed event is our highest-value recurring tournament, and it is worth booking yourself in ahead of time if you want a seat there.
On Tuesdays we also run our “Triple Tuesday” promotion for Grand Rewards members. It is a loyalty points bonus, not a poker tournament, but if you already collect points it is a useful extra to keep in mind around your weekly routine.
